GLIDE Forward
GLIDE’s mission of building empathy, transforming lives, and being radically inclusive has always found its core expression in our Daily Free Meals program. Food insecurity affects one in four San Franciscans. What began in 1969 as a weekly volunteer-run potluck for 50 people now serves approximately 2,000 meals a day.
GLIDE’s Daily Free Meals Program provides three nutritious meals a day, 364 days a year, to the poor, houseless and hungry. As GLIDE’s largest program, it serves as a gateway to the rest of GLIDE’s programs and services. The Department of Disability and Aging Services partially funds GLIDE’s Daily Free Meal program.
The Daily Free Meals program emphasizes culturally appropriate meals, with choice and variety, and an environment where those can eat with dignity.
The Daily Free Meals program has no eligibility requirements. Clients are not required to complete an intake form prior to receiving a meal.
