Associate Director, Individual Giving
The Associate Director, Individual Giving will create and implement strategies to meet aggressive goals to increase new, renewed and upgraded individuals providing annual gifts of $2,500+ in Glide support. This person will also maintain a portfolio of 75 -100 donors, including those at the five-figure giving levels and above for personal stewardship and individual solicitations. The Associate Director, Individual Giving will generate special project sponsorship proposals and actively solicit five and six-figure capacity individual prospects. This person manages special events to involve and cultivate prospects. The Associate Director will have a goal of $2 to $3 million that includes funds raised via direct mail. With the Vice President of Development and Advancement, s/he works with volunteers to further Glide’s fundraising efforts and outreach. This position requires occasional evening and/or weekend work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties can be assigned, and the duties and responsibilities of the job are subject to change without notice.
- Participate in the planning and organization of fundraising and cultivation events;
- Develop annual campaigns and strategies designed to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors and prospects;
- Manage a portfolio of about 75 to 100 current, lapsed and prospective donors for major and mid-level gifts ($2500+);
- Write solicitation letters and proposals to prospective donors;
- Make personal contact with donors and prospects, and host and direct visits to Glide and/or their offices or homes;
- Identify, cultivate and recruit volunteers to help with major and mid-level donors and prospects in giving clubs;
- With the VP, work with planned giving prospects and donors;
- Coordinate the Direct Mail Program and oversee the efforts of an outside direct mail consultant.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, communications, and public relations are essential. Donor centered approach to fundraising and stewardship;
- Exceptionally strong strategic thinking and goal orientation;
- Excellent research and analytical skills. Ability to perform ad-hoc data analysis of Glide’s computerized donor data;
- Track record of solicitation of major gifts required at the five to six level figures. Proven record of achieving ambitious results and creating effective systems to manage multiple projects;
- Ability to work independently on deadline-critical projects. The ability to multi-task and prioritize conflicting deliverables or objectives within specific timelines;
- Works well under pressure in a demanding, fast paced and unpredictable work environment. Ability to operate with purpose, urgency and accuracy;
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
- Comfort cultivating relationships with others. Ability to build relationships, understand what motivates others, and ability to work well with people from various backgrounds;
- Role involves exposure to sensitive information and requires considerable use of diplomacy, discretion and judgment. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality;

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 year’s progressively responsible experience in individual fundraising, including knowledge of individual giving strategies, methodology and prospect research or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Successful experience of developing strategies and managing implementation of premier donor annual giving programs, including solicitation of 4-5 figure annual gifts;
- Proven track record of creating proposals and actively soliciting 5-6 figure gifts for special projects from high capacity individuals;
- Experience in stewardship and relationship cultivation of Trustees and/or high-end giving individuals;
- Familiarity and experience with San Francisco philanthropic community preferred;
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential a plus
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Exceptional verbal and writing skills. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to recognize opportunities, and communicate goals and objectives clearly;
- Ability to speak compellingly about our organization, mission and funding goals to individuals and groups;
- Must be able to compose solicitation letters, donor appeals, marketing collateral, and other appropriate documentation including the ability to convey complicated projects in a persuasive manner.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Strong computer proficiency with MS Office. Excel and PowerPoint preferred but not required;
- Raisers Edge experience preferred but not required. Demonstrated ability to learn new software and databases essential;
- Experience with using screening services like WealthEngine or Blackbaud Analytics to drive results very helpful.
