Pastor Donald Guest

Pastor Donald F. Guest most recently served as Superintendent of the Chicago Regional Office of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church (1999-2006). He has served churches in Chicago for the past 35 years in the United Methodist Church (1981-2006), the Reformed Church in America (1974-1981), and the African Methodist Episcopal Church (1972-1974). It was through his participation with National Black Methodists for Church Renewal in 1985, that he first became acquainted with the Reverend Cecil Williams and the work of Glide. He relates, "God spoke to me powerfully as Rev. Williams preached to us concerning God's unconditional love and renewed my call to a ministry of liberation, healing, and transformation." Pastor Guest believes that religious institutions in their claim to represent God’s cause in the world are thereby obligated to reach out first and foremost to the victims of affluence, and then work with the same in the process of recovering their humanity. Don holds the Master of Divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago (Presbyterian USA) and the Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio (United Methodist).
