Who We Are and What We Do

Founded by Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani and led by Willa Seldon, the Glide Foundation’s comprehensive support services have enabled San Francisco’s poor and marginalized populations to overcome barriers of poverty, violence, addiction, dependency and low self-worth.

Glide respects the dignity of each and every individual in our community, particularly during times of hardship. No matter how many times a person falls, she/he is always welcome at Glide to have another chance at recovering, rehabilitating, moving toward self-sufficiency and developing personally and spiritually.

In 1969, Glide’s social services were launched when a handful of volunteers began serving a Monday night meal to poor and street people.  Since then, Glide has become one of San Francisco’s largest and most comprehensive providers of innovative services for poor and marginalized people through the following programs.
