On May 12, 2024, the GLIDE community came together to pay tribute to Cecil Williams, a revered leader whose influence transcends borders and touches lives worldwide. Minister Marvin K. White poignantly reminded us during the ceremony, ‘Cecil now resides within each of us; a part of him lives on in every heart.’ Dr. Gina Fromer, our President and CEO, echoed this sentiment, affirming, ‘Cecil’s legacy is everlasting, and every day we uphold it here at GLIDE.’ Former Mayor Willie Brown advised us that whenever we’re confronted with a challenge, ask, ‘What would Cecil do?’

Among the 1,000 attendees honoring the legacy of Rev. Cecil Williams were distinguished guests such as Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Mayor London Breed, The Honorable Willie Brown, CA Senator Scott Wiener, CA Representative Matt Haney, Supervisor Matt Dorsey, Supervisor Aaron Peskin, Supervisor Dean Preston, SFFD Chief Jeanne Nicholson, as well as notable figures like Honey Mahoghany and Renel Brooks.
