About Round Rock Honey Beekeeping Academy The Round Rock Honey Beekeeping Academy was started by Master Beekeeper and former public school teacher Konrad Bouffard in the Spring of 2007. Since that time, the class has become increasingly popular and branched out to Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, greening rooftops all along the way! Reviews of the class: “During the beekeeping class, master beekeepers steep neophytes in the nectar-harvesting basics, including an introduction to bees and information on hive handling, the No. 1 beekeeping quandary among cartoon bears. Students keen on cultivating their own liquid gold will learn how to keep bees through changing seasons and safeguard their swarms from disease and parasites. Finally, participants get to don full beekeeper's garb (suits are provided) and gain hands-on experience at the on-site apiary, conducting buzzing swarms of worker bees, even if the queen bee is on a diplomatic mission to discuss trade relations with tyrannical butterflies.” - Groupon “Voice” “As we poked around in the hives, it was amazing that despite the thousands of bees, they really didn’t care what we were doing…. they all had better things to do. Even when we pulled out the frames with the honeycomb, the bees really didn’t seem to mind and went right back to whatever they were doing. As we inspected each frame, the instructor pointed out that it was critical to make sure not to squish any bees, because that would trigger an alert response within the hive – and we wouldn’t want that. And really, bees are such beautiful creatures we didn’t want to squish them anyway.
