Our VOLUNTEER RESOURCE PROGRAM connects humanity through service and offers opportunities for people to get involved.
In addition to our Daily Free Meals Program, we have many other programs that need long-term, dedicated volunteers. Open volunteer positions are listed below.
If you are interested in an open volunteer position, please fill out a GLIDE Volunteer Application and submit your cover letter and resume to Lsmall@glide.org. Please specify in your email subject line which position you are interested in. If we think it might be a good fit, we will contact you for an interview and any next steps.
Please note that we no longer require volunteer orientations for long term volunteers. If you are interested in learning more about our meals program volunteering, we provide 30 minute orientations Monday-Friday at 9am, 11am and 3pm. Family, Youth, and Childcare Center
Be a classroom assistant or tutor in our After School Program! Volunteers are expected to make a weekly commitment for at least 6 months. Current TB Test and a Livescan (fingerprint and background check) required, which will cost the volunteer $35. This process must go through GLIDE and cannot be transferred from any other source. Volunteer times are available Mon-Fri between 2:30-6:30pm.
Help our Finance team with various administrative tasks, including scanning, filing, and label making. Volunteer times are available M-F 9-5.
HIV Services and Education
Volunteers are an essential component of our HIV Services Program and work under the supervision of the HIV Services Manager. HIV Testing Counselor and Syringe Access Volunteer positions require previous experience in the HIV Services field and a minimum one year commitment.
Assemble Harm Reduction Kits: Support Syringe Access by helping assembling harm reduction kits every Tuesday from 2-4pm. Volunteers will be able to learn more about deeper volunteer engagement with HIV Services and Education. Ages 18+ are welcome, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP.
HIV Testing Counselor: Glide’s HIV Testing Program involves providing venue-based testing in a community setting which may include bars, mobile van, community events, shelters, and other community based organizations. These shifts include early morning or late night, as well as regular 9am-5pm. HIV Test Counselor volunteers screen high risk individuals for Rapid HIV Testing under the supervision of the HIV Services Manager.
Syringe Access Volunteer: As reliable and consistent members of our team, needle exchange volunteers are trained to provide non-judgmental, community-based harm reduction services in a safe space and respectful manner in order to reduce the risk of HIV & Hepatitis C and other harms related to injection drug-use. Our program hours of operation are Monday and Tuesday Evenings from 7-9pm. We also do roving exchange in the streets of the Tenderloin.
Interpreter: Do you speak Spanish or Cantonese? We are looking for someone to provide interpretation support (Spanish, Cantonese) at our community meetings at CW House (4th Wednesdays from 3 to 4:30pm) and Spanish interpretation at 149 Mason (4th Thursdays from 3 to 4:30pm).
Spanish Speaking Tutor: We would love your support tutoring our residents and even our staff! Tutor one of our young residents, or give an introductory Spanish course to our staff members.
Celebration Office Reception: Support Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani's staff and answer phones in the lively Celebration office Tuesday - Thursday from 10am - 3pm, Saturday 9am - 12pm or 12pm - 3pm, and Sunday 8am - 10:30am or 10:30 am - 1:30pm. Familiarity with GLIDE is helpful.
Ensemble Singers: GLIDE Memorial Church membership required. Bring established singing voice to 6:30pm Wednesday auditions in Room 201.
Sales Personnel: Become part of the joyous sales team that sells & inventories GLIDE merchandise in Freedom Hall after each Sunday Celebration.
Ushers: Glide Memorial Church membership required. Serve 9am & 11am Celebrations on a regular basis.
Tenderloin Safe Passage
Work with one of our partner organizations, Tenderloin Safe Passage, to ensure our neighborhood's children have a safe route to walk home. Volunteers assist as corner captains or as part of a roaming team to make the neighborhood a safe place for all. Positions are available M-F 2:15-3:45pm, with a minimum commitment of once per week for three months.
